How do I exit Apple Podcast app on MacBook Air?

How do I exit a podcast in the app? I rarely use it and no matter what I do, I cannot clear it. I don’t want to listen to it anymore. I can pause it, but I cannot clear it off the decks. Stop Podcasts autoplaying iPhone seems to often (but not always) start a random episode of some show when the one I am listening to finishes. Setting continuous play off in the podcast app settings does not prevent this. I can think of no circumstances in which this would be the behaviour I would want to see. Is there a permanent way to prevent the podcast app ever starting to play an episode until I actually click the play button?
