iPhone 15 Pro Standby Mode not working

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing an issue where Standby Mode has completely stopped working on my iPhone running iOS 18.4 RC. Landscape mode functions properly, and the device detects orientation changes, but it does not enter Standby Mode when placed on my Apple charger or stand.

Here's what I’ve tried so far:

  • Resetting all settings via Transfer or Reset iPhone
  • Testing with different chargers and stands
  • Visiting the Apple Store—diagnostics confirmed no hardware damage, but they couldn’t resolve the issue

I’m considering either fully resetting my phone or rolling back to iOS 18.3.2. Has anyone else encountered this issue? Would a full reset be the best next step, or should I try downgrading first?

Any advice would be appreciated!

  • First, make sure StandBy mode is enabled. It’s on by default, but if you’ve turned it off, go to Settings → StandBy and toggle it back on. If your iPhone supports Always On Display, enabling it can improve your experience. You can also adjust when the display turns off under Turn Display Off.

  • Next, use StandBy mode correctly. Your iPhone must be connected to power and placed in landscape mode at an inclined angle, preferably on a charging dock. If it's not positioned properly, StandBy mode won’t activate.

  • Turn off Low Power Mode, as it disables background processes required for StandBy mode. To do this, go to Settings → Battery and toggle it off. You can also disable it via Control Center by swiping down from the top right and tapping the Low Power Mode icon.

  • Use an MFi-certified charger, as uncertified cables or MagSafe chargers may prevent StandBy mode from working. If you see the error “This accessory may not be supported,” switching to a certified charger should help.

  • Disable Portrait Orientation Lock, since StandBy mode only works in landscape mode. Open Control Center, find the Orientation Lock icon, and turn it off. Then, place your phone in landscape mode again. If StandBy mode still doesn’t work, try restarting your device.

  • If the issue persists, force restart your iPhone to fix potential software glitches. If that doesn’t help, you may need to reset your iPhone settings. This won’t delete personal data but will restore default settings like network configurations and Apple Pay cards. Go to Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset → Reset All Settings, enter your passcode, and confirm.
