HDD on Desktop will not open but FCP is still accessing Library on it?

Using an FCP Library on an old Seagate 2TB self powered USB 3.0 HDD

The drive appears on the desktop and FCP accesses the Library normally but I can't open the HDD to see the other contents.

I have connected and disconnected the Seagate and restarted the Mac to no avail.

I have also used First Aid on both the Volume and Container several times with no effect.

It just sits there and refuses to open.

The drive opened normally an hour ago!

There were some new behaviors added in Sequoia for when a window bumps into the edge of the screen.

If these are not suitable for your workflow, it is easy to turn them off, essentially returning to the way it was before Sequoia. Just turn "Drag windows to screen edges to tile" OFF:

I suppose you have already restarted your mac. If not, it may be worth a try.

Also, if you try this in Terminal:

1) Type "ls " (without quotes but WITH a trailing space - that is a lowercase ell and a lowercase ess); do NOT press enter

2) Drag the drive icon onto the Terminal window

3) Press enter

In normal circumstances these should list the contents of the top level of the drive. What happens?

STOP PRESS! PROBLEM SOLVED!

The Safari page disappeared and on a whim I switched on my second monitor . . . only to find both the Safari page and the opened HDD!

How it jumped to the second monitor, especially as it was not switched on is surprising!

I have noticed in Sequoia that strange things happen when I drag pages to the sides of the monitor. Sometimes the page will jump to full screen and on other occasions it simply disappears as in this case!

Yet another weird FCP effect which I have mentioned on this forum . . . if you look at each HDV clip you will see it has a unique date and time date.

If I drop the Date and Time title on the first clip it displays beautifully and correctly in the viewer.

However, if I drop the Date/Time title on subsequent clips the info remains the same as the first clip, almost as though I were simply copying the effect from the first clip.

I can find no way to get it to display the correct information for anything other than that first clip.

You are not alone :-)

I have been tricked by this myself a few times... having the display connected but turned off and things mysteriously disappearing, simply because they were showing on the display that was off.
