AirPods Max lossless over any USB-C cable?

Today's news that APM will do lossless with a cable. All news items specify the included USB-C cable and an offered USB-C to 3.5mm cable.

As I have no idea where my USB-C cable went I wonder if any USB-C/USB-C cable will work or is there something special about the included one. I highly doubt there's any difference but am jaded enough to believe Apple may have designed something special just to grab a few extra $$.

Thanks, but, yeah, read that and many other articles discussing it.

What I'm getting at is wondering if anyone knows if Apple could "add" something to the cables/ports such that we would need an Apple "special USB-C" cable.

I get this idea because all USB-C cables are not necessarily the same. For example, I have a Samsung SSD external drive that I keep attached to my MacBook Air, used for Time Machine. I keep it stuck to the back of my display. I looked for shorter cables than the one Samsung provided. I tried two from recognized manufacturers. None worked; one did but had terrible connection reliability.
