Should voice input work with Mojave?

iMac 2012 Mojave 10.14.8. I've just begun to try the dictation feature but I speak and nothing happens. I've been through the preferences etc. With or without enhanced dictation. Nothing. Should I persevere? DavidB

From the OP: I scoured the forum and found that deleting a plist file was enough to get me started. I didn't have to restart the Mac. So far so good.

" SOLVED: Delete pref file and restart Mac.

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.assistant.plist

MBP M2 14.3.1 - Issue: Pushed dictation button, icon appeared dictation wasn't working."
