SharePlay not working on Apple TV for Android phones

So, I myself am deeply imbedded in the Apple ecosystem. iPhone, Watch, AirPods, HomePods, Apple TVs, AirTags, even typing this on a Mac. My friend is die-hard Samsung, except for music streaming. He uses Apple Music. When Apple updated Apple Music on the Apple TV to include SharePlay with them saying it would work with Androids as well, I was thrilled. Wine nights with both of us choosing songs instead of me having to play DJ! However, every time he scans the QR code on the TV, it all goes a bit nuts.

The QR code opens his Apple Music app on his Samsung, good so far, I get a pop up on the TV asking if I give him permission, press yes on that, and then it all just kinda gives up. It shows him as on there but he can't do anything, then his Android Apple Music app just sorta forgets about it all. The TV will say he's on there for a while as well, but similarly then he'll just disappear. It's really frustrating given yes he's using an Android phone, but he pays for Apple Music - and one of the things about SharePlay was it was supposed to even work with people who didn't have a subscription. We've tried it out multiple times on multiple occasions. Has anyone else experienced this?

(Disclaimer in case I get the "just tell him to get an iPhone" comments, trust me when I say **** would freeze over before that haha, the fact he prefers Apple Music to Spotify is a source of deep contention for him)
