Unable to make corrections using Dictation

I have been trying to find how to make corrections in Pages when using Dictation.

When I say "select last word" or "delete that" it just writes those words in the document instead of actually carrying out an action.

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

How do I avoid slangs in dictation on iOS and macOS? "Want to" and "going to" end up as "wanna" and "gunna" or whatever, and I sometimes forget to manually correct this and then feel like a moron when sending a text, etc. Apparently no settings to prevent this and using a text shortcut doesn't seem to work either per this question: Dictation and text replacement - Apple Community Any other hacks to prevent dictation from doing this?
