The code will first be sent to a Trusted Device and if you do not have another Trusted Device available, you need to tap "Didn't Get a Code?" and then you will have the option to send it to a Trusted Phone number that has been registered on your account. The Trusted Device is a device that is currently signed into your Apple Account and able to receive the code.

i have to report USER ERROR

. however, i think there are mitigating circumstances in this case

many, many internet-based entities are gettiing in the two-factor authentication bandwagon

. everybody is doing it! (is it the law?)

. and everybody does it the same way, by by sending codes through email, text, or even a phone call to a thrusted device

. Apple's 2FA implementation also uses that model, a lot, at least until last night with me

this really puts a whole different spin on Think Different

. i should've taken a screenshot, but at that particular time, i couldn't think straight (i was being locked out of my own laptop in my own home)

. what is this different way to do 2FA, this Apple way?

. to ask the user to enter the CODE zie uses to UNLOCK a particular device

. of course, the message in the dialog does not help a flustered user determine that this is not your regular 2FA prompt, even though it looks EXACTLY the same as every other one, save for the small print indicating the different way Apple's 2FA wanted to authenticate me

. i understand Apple wanting to save money on localization, but this is just too cute to be true

. it is cute

. and it is true

so, what i ran into is this other way that Apple chose to authenticate me, not by sending me a code but asking ME for a CODE that i already use to UNLOCK a device

. i mean, what the ****?

did the dialog really say "code" referring to the information i had to enter, i think so but cannot say for sure

sorry, not sorry
