iPod touch 4th Gen won't restore in recovery mode due to previous DFU mode

My iPod has a warning on it saying to connect to iTunes, but when I connect it to iTunes, it says that it needs a password to unlock, which i can't do. When I put it into recovery mode, it says that the iPod was previously in DFU ode and to put it back into DFU mode, but even when I do that it still says to put it into DFU mode. I just want to restore the iPod. Please help.

If you don't have the password to unlock/approve the restore then you may be out of luck. Are you the original owner of this device or was it purchased second hand? It seems like you may be in a DFU loop that you can only exit by restoring the device to factory firmware/settings. See if anything here helps: https://theapplewiki.com/wiki/DFU_Mode.
