Duolingo audio through mini HomePod: how?

Is it possible to get my Mini HomePod to be the loudspeaker for the audio when using the Duolingo app? Guidance appreciated. Thanks.

Go to Control Center on your iPhone, select the AirPlay icon in the location where there are playback controls. Select your HomePod mini. Audio will come through them.

That may turn on general streamed music, but not the Duolingo sound . There must be something specific about Duolingo. Disappointing.
