WhatsApp crashes after a few seconds and closes by itself

I used to have an iPhone 11 with 64GB of storage, and a few days ago WhatsApp started crashing unexpectedly after a few seconds, making it unusable. I freed up some space, but the issue persisted. I decided to upgrade to a new iPhone 13, transferred all my data, and the problem appeared again.

I’ve already reset the iPhone as new, deleted WhatsApp, and reinstalled it. I noticed that if I set up WhatsApp without restoring my chat backup, it works fine. However, when I restore my chat history, the chats download successfully, but the app starts crashing every 3 seconds.

On this new phone, I have plenty of storage available—70GB free—and my backup size is only 12GB, so I don’t think it’s a storage issue. It’s really important for me to keep my chats, so deleting them entirely isn’t an option. I suspect there might be a corrupt chat or file causing the crash.

Has anyone experienced something similar or found a solution? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

When was the last time you updated the app? Meta (WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Messenger etc) have been updating each app quite frequently. In the last month WhatsApp has been updated 9 times. That should tell you about the bugs they’re trying to fix. 😀

Maybe another community member will have a fix, but all I can suggest is daily checking for updates. Sorry.
