iMovie not connecting to earbuds mic since last update on iphone

So I use iMovie on my iPhone 140pro max at least once a month. Today, since the last update, iMovie does not connect to my earbuds mic. The earbuds are connected. I hear through them, but it won’t connect to the mic specifically. The mic works fine on all other apps.

I did a factory reset on the earbuds, I rebooted the phone. I can not delete and reinstall the iMovie app without losing my projects, so that’s not an option.

what else can I do?
