no microphone available on continuity camera

Continuity camera mac mini M1 Ventura with iPhone 13pro max and 12.

camera connects in both zoom and facetime ok.

Microphone is a fail and non-existent. So continuity camera calls are full of video but silent!

Privacy settings and app permissions all good. Controls on computer and phone all seem ok.

No microphone listed to select and not selected automatically. Think it is a Mac mini issue rather than an iPhone issue. Yes microphone on handset is working fine for normal phone and recorder use.

Mac just not 'finding' iphone mic to connect to. anyone else?

Mac mini, macOS 14.0

Thanks ShannonM1 for the effort. So problem partially resolved for cable only.

It appears that the very first time you connect the phone to use as a CC webcam, the 'drivers' may not register/update/resolve correctly. So although everything functioned except the microphone (strange the phone camera listed and with video feed but not the microphone from the same device).

Once I had powered down and rebooted the computer, cable connection only works correctly.......wifi not so.

Wifi connection does not function and the device connectivity on both video/microphone is lost when disconnecting the lightning cable. Furthermore, the "desk view camera" from phone is listed ok, but the webcam/front camera which was listed on cable connection (when both listed as available) disappears as does microphone.

At least it is usable - but the wifi connection  claims is possible too - is not happening! Bluetooth is active. Multiple attempts connecting with and without cable and checking 'sound' system settings etc.

It would be useful to know if the phone is relying on a wifi connection to the network router for CC webcam, or directly to the computer. Either way, wifi CCwebcam no beuno!

Further troubleshooting findngs: when on wifi and I unlock/relock the phone, the camera and microphone list correctly and are showing for selection - the CCw connection page shows connected on the phone too. A small step forward, although now they are displaying as connected, neither video or mic (no input level displaying) stream are happening - again this bug only on wifi connection.

Hello pnguru,

Per Continuity Camera: Use iPhone as a webcam for Mac - Apple Support, "Your iPhone mic is available separately to apps that offer a mic setting. Or you can choose Apple menu  > System Settings, click Sound in the sidebar, then select your iPhone mic in the Input tab. You don't need to choose your iPhone mic, unless your Mac has no built-in or external mic. Your app might then choose your iPhone mic automatically. "

So from what it sounds like, the switch isn't happening and if you try to manually select it, the iPhone isn't visible. Is that correct? If so, to help start narrowing this down, create a test administrator user on your Mac. Then log in there and try to use the Continuity Camera. Let us know what happens. Here's info about the accounts: Change Users & Groups settings on Mac - Apple Support

Cheers!
