If you choose to apply the Pages caption style to a photo, its positioning to the photo is unchangeable. That is the price of convenience.


You can choose not to use that built-in caption style and instead, make your caption container using a Text box. This is easiest by selecting the photo and the Text box, then setting Text wrap to None in the Arrange panel. Then you can juxtapose the Text box right next to the image. This is how captions were done long before Apple added the caption style.


When you are satisfied with your custom caption, select it and the photo and choose Group from the Arrange panel.
