Siri Not Announcing Contact Name Before Dialing

I recently set up a new iPhone 14 Plus (iOS 18.3.1) for my mom and noticed that when I ask Siri to call someone, she does not verbally confirm the name before dialing. The Announce Calls setting is set to Always, but the issue persists.

I have already tried the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Ensuring Siri Responses is set to Always Speak
  • Checking Call Audio Routing settings
  • Restarting the iPhone
  • Updating to the latest iOS version
  • Toggling the Announce Calls setting off and back to Always

Despite these steps, Siri still does not announce the name before making the call. This feature worked as expected on her previous iPhones, and it is important for her due to vision issues.

Could you please confirm if this is a known issue or if there are any additional steps we can try?

Thank you for your post to the Community, and for clearly letting us know what you ave already tried.

There have been other posts with a similar situation:

Seems the feature was changed. Maybe Siri is more reliable now.

and

You can now tell Siri "Fred Smith" is my brother" etc.

See: Tell Siri about yourself on iPhone - Apple Support

Then you just tell Siri "Call my brother", and the call goes straight through and the two of you are speaking sooner.

Those who are upset about the change have said that it is possible to cause Siri to ask before calling

✽ In this third-party (non-Apple) discussion thread on a similar issue:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/can-i-make-siri-confirm-before-calling.1327439/

one contributor says

"so I put all phone numbers in twice, one as work and one as home. Siri

then asks which number you wish to call. We had to add a ; after one of

the numbers otherwise Siri was smart enough to call because the numbers

were exactly the same. It really helps if you have certain people who

you just don't want to call by accident."

Others have sent feedback to Apple to request a return to the earlier method:

Eg: Web-form for iPhone Feedback: Feedback - iPhone - Apple

or

To provide feedback about an accessibility feature on an Apple product,

you can: email the Accessibility team: accessibility@apple.com.

All the best :-)
