How do I automatically delete downloaded podcasts after listening on iPhone?

I used to just have all the podcasts I subscribe to download the latest episodes and they would just continually play what ever was the oldest download in my library and then once played it would remove the download. Cause why would I need to keep it downloaded if I had already listened to it. That's dumb. Now it seems if you select "removed played downloads" it forces you to have to manually add every individual episode to "up next" for it to play. Sometimes it still doesn't show up in "up next" This is a dumb update. I liked it when all my downloaded episodes just played in order from oldest to newest and then get removed once I listened to them. Now that doesn't see to be the process and it makes a ton of extra steps for me. Especially annoying when I'm driving and have to stop and manually add a new episode to listen to. I think some of these constant updates are just to give some employee a purpose and not to improve the phone.
