Why can't I hear my iPhone ringing when making calls?

When I make phone calls, the phone dials, and people answer, but I can't hear the phone ringing, or anything, until they actually answer. Its a little odd, to not hear it ringing. Its just silent. Can I fix that?

No, you can’t fix it because the ringing that you hear comes from the network supporting the phone you are calling, it doesn’t come from your phone or your carrier’s network. In a way that ringing “sidetone” is obsolete; in landline days it would tell you that the final relay that connected to the called line had closed.
