my mother-in-law has an iPad mini 5th generation with 64Gb of storage of which photos is taking up 37Gb of space. she only has 650 photos which take up about 1.6 Gb on her icloud storage. why is the photos libraty so big and what can we do to redu
We have offloaded all the apps she doesn’t use but the big offender storage wise is photos

One easy thing to check is:
Settings > Apps > Photos > Optimize iPad Storage = “on”.
Might she have video data in Messages?
No, Messages itself is small-she doesn’t use it.
She uses messenger which we have checked. She is in quite a few shared photo albums which we are reluctant to drop her out of
that’s done- all unused apps are offloaded. The issue is specifically the huge size of the photos library compared to the tiny number of photos that she has
