Apple Photo app size

why does Apple photo app taking up so much space? the whole library photo and video size is only 60GB, but on disk storage photo app taking up to 105GB. please don't advice to optimise photo library, thank you.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.5

Actually, there's more than the graphic-- there are actual numbers, and a number specific to Photos:



Mine shows storage that is less than my non-optimized small system library-- way less than the library I am doing most of my editing in. This is the opposite of Edmondsnoopy's experience.


I've used macs for over 30 years, and I've never found any of these numbers useful at all. I use the Finder for storage information. I think the best thing to do with this "information" is to ignore it.

All storage used by Photos to store your photos and videos is contained in the Photos Library.

You may want to check the size of the Photos Library in your Pictures folder.

The library contains the image files you imported, plus additional working copies, like previews of the edited versions, faces thumbnails, thumbnails for browsing, plus database files describing your albums and metadata.
