How do I stop a podcast from automatically playing on iPhone, iPods, and Apple Watch

How do I stop a podcast. Every time I turn on my phone it is playing, also on my iPods and Apple Watch. This is very frustrating.

Stop Podcasts autoplaying iPhone seems to often (but not always) start a random episode of some show when the one I am listening to finishes. Setting continuous play off in the podcast app settings does not prevent this. I can think of no circumstances in which this would be the behaviour I would want to see. Is there a permanent way to prevent the podcast app ever starting to play an episode until I actually click the play button?

After iOS 18 update I Can't stop Continupus Playback of Podcasts Since updating my iPhone 14 to iOS 18, podcasts play continuously even though I have NOT selected that. Checking the Podcast Settings Continuous Play is not selected and is set to Off. However Podcasts play continuously anyway. What can I do to stop this behavior?

Podcast Continuous Playback Cannot be turned off permanently On iphone 15 pro, ios 18.0.1. Obviously, I start by going into settings, apps, podcasts and turn off continuous playback. That is what should work... forever. However, after a few days of toggling the switch, I will finish a podcast and the iphone continues to play the next podcast. I toggle it on and off and it works immediately... but will not remain and will start continuous playback even with the toggle off.
