Office Libre for Mac Monterey v. 12.7.6

The version of LibreOffice in the Mac App Store is not developed by the Document Foundation and will be out of sync with the real LibreOffice Suite. I always install LibreOffice from its developer site, never from the Mac App Store.

The current version of LibreOffice (25.2.0) works just fine on macOS Catalina 10.15.7 through Monterey 12.7.6 on a 2015 MacBook Air.

I had the same problem with my MBA early 2015 i5 (MBA 7.2). I just downloaded the Libre Office installer again. However, this time when asked for the OS I selected Mac-Intel.

It overwrote the earlier efforts and just installed fine and is running OK. One problem solved

Downloaded and installed LibreOffice.

When opening Libreoffice the system returns error message "can not open LibreOffice because the app is not supported on this Mac".

This is contradictory to the suggestion here below and to the LibreOffice release notes.

Given a download of the current LO 25.2.2 version, one would expect the error you received if you didn't check the correct platform for the download. The choices are macOS (Intel) and macOS (Apple Silicon). The latter would not run on your Intel Mac.

When you build an application that is compatible with Intel Macs and Apple Silicon Macs, you can either

• Build separate binaries, each of which is compatible with only one type of processor
• Build a single, larger, "Universal 2" binary, which contains both sets of code

The Document Foundation took the "separate binary" approach. "x86_64" refers to 64-bit Intel code; "Aarch64" to 64-bit ARM / Apple Silicon code.

Did you choose the Intel version or the Apple Silicon version by mistake?

It most definitely does not.

I have a 2015 MacBook Air, Monterey 12.7.6 and the latest LibreOffice 25.2.0 and it does not work. Instantly get the notification: You can’t open the application “LibreOffice” because this application is not supported on this Mac.

If you are able to open this software package on your MacBook, please kindly post the solution and confirm that you are also using a 2015 MacBook Air.

Did you select the "macOS x86_64" version? That is the Intel version of the app as mentioned by the others.

Download the newest compatible LibreOffice version for that macOS.

You are right about using the Intel version, thanks.

Downloaded LibreOffice with Intel, installed it locally, ran it - same error message, version not supported.

What next?

LibreOffice 25.2.2.2 works OK in Monterey 12.7.6 with the setup below.

Make sure not to use any 3rd party anti-virus apps and "cleaners" that often corrupt the system.

Update: I downloaded the lower version 24.8 and this installs and runs correctly on my system. Strange...

Not so strange. 24.8 could be the last Monterey compatible version.
