How to import custom playlists, 'Date added', 'Date modified', 'Date played', and 'Rating' from old iTunes Library files to new Music and TV apps on Mac mini

Hi

I recently transferred my complete music and movies library from iTunes on an iMac i7 2019 with MacOS 10.14 to a new Mac Mini M4 Pro 2024 with MacOS 15.3, but I have some issues with this transfer that I would very much like to get some help with.

1) I have my music library (appr. 60K files) stored internally (/user/Music/Music/Media/Music), while I have my movies library (appr. 25K files, mostly old home videos) stored externally on different hard drives

2) I have full access to both my music library in the new Music app and to my movies library in the new TV app, but all my previous data containing custom play lists, 'Date added', 'Date modified', 'Date played' and 'Rating' wasn't transferred during the upgrade (even though I installed the new Mac Mini with the old iMac connected for a proper and thorough upgrade), so it appears that the transfer ignored the old iTunes Music library files (Library.xml and iTunes Music Library.itl if I recall correctly)

In order to *not* have to manually go through every single movie and manually select which ones I have seen and what rating I had given them by comparing between iTunes on the iMac and TV on the Mac Mini back and forth, is there any way I can take the old iTunes Library files and somehow get Music and TV to import the data from these files and apply it in the new libraries?

I have added some music and movies to each respective library after the upgrade, but I would rather add those again (if they are removed during such a library data upgrade) and the add them again afterwards, then manually editing each of the new libraries as described...

Thanks in advance for any helpful advice on this!

Mark

See Move your iTunes/Music library to a new computer - Apple Community and Managing your Mac media libraries - Apple Community. From the sounds of things you have imported your media into the new apps instead of using the option-start-Music/TV method to convert your previous library, which is the way to retain the information you want. Converting the library will work better if the content is where the old library expects it to be rather than the new default layout. It might be possible to fix things after the fact, or you might need to redo the migration from scratch.

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my question! When I have copied the old "iTunes Library.itl" file (assuming this is sufficient and there is no point in adding "iTunes Library.xml" or any other older files as well) from my old iMac, where on my new Mac Mini should I place this before I option-open the Music and TV apps? Can the file be located anywhere and I just have to point it out when asked (after option-opening), or must it reside in some specific folder location (if so, where)? Thanks,

Mark
