Why does my iPhone SE require password for Touch ID?

What triggers "Password required to enable touch ID". On my SE3, it may re-appear several times in a brief period (after successfully entering the password and using the phone)?

Your device will require your passcode when you do the following:

  • Multiple Failed Attempts to Unlock using Face ID /Touch ID
  • Turn on or restart your device
  • Press the Home button or swipe up to unlock your device (you can change this)
  • Update your software
  • Erase your device
  • View or change passcode settings
  • Install iOS or iPadOS Configuration profiles
  • Called Emergency / SOS
