My husband updated his 7th gen iPad to OS 18.3.1, the iPad shut down and now the iPad won’t turn on at all. Tried all of the recommendations for hard starting. Hold top button and home , volume up, volume down then top button, etc. screen remains black. Been fully charged with the same cord used to fully charge his iPhone. (I am holding off updating my iPad to 18.3.1 because I’m afraid same will happen to mine)
Installation of any system software update carries a very small (but not zero) element of risk. A previously undetected hardware issue, or software corruption, can cause a device to unsuccessfully install an update, or fail to restart having done so.
While isolated issues are inevitably reported here, I have not seen any sign of widespread or significant problems with iPadOS 18.x. Be assured that problems, if and when they occur, become very obvious very quickly within the Apple Support Community. You should have no reason to have any worries with stability of recent iPadOS updates for your iPad.
As for your husband's failed iPad, you would be best advised to seek assistance directly from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page.
Alternatively, you can initiate and manage your support cases from Apple devices using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to offer assistance:

iPadOS 18.3 has worked fine, as has iOS 18.3. Been running it on local devices, save for those used for app testing.
Biggest issue with 18.3 was figuring out how to turn off Apple Intelligence in a few spots, or others around here figuring out how to turn it on or whether it could be enabled in their configuration.

You can absolutely read that. You can also read the opposite happening, too.
With a ~billion iPhone users, even a tiny fraction of folks having issues means a lot of replies. Always.
Given the billion users, some number of folks will inevitably have a completely unrelated iPhone hardware failure around the same time as a release, or will start having battery issues, or whatever else, too.
If there's a wider problem detected, Apple will pull the update.
Yes, iPadOS 18.3 is stable. Be aware that as of today, 10th February, iPadOS 18.3.1 is currently.
You should aim to keep your iPad updated to the current version - as updates, including the one release today, incorporate essential security updates.

As of today, March 1, 2025 iPad update has lost / won't recognize most of my passwords. Several apps want me to remake the password.
Since I updated my iPhone 15 to version 18.3 update, I am unable to attach files in my documents to emails.
Please what can I do to rectify this problem as I am now unable to work on the go.
