MacBook Air - System error alerts from ujokegimi.sbs. "Click here to scan!" I have not clicked but it keeps popping up

Suddenly I'm getting messages on the alert in the upper right corner of my screen on MacBook Air. Sometimes it tells me to subscribe to Norton, or to click to scan, or to turn on my antivirus. I realize it's phishing, but the alerts will not stop. I tried rebooting but it's still here. Here's an example:

SYSTEM ERROR

from ujokegimi.sbs

Help please? Thanks.

Hello blue2920,

These are probably notifications coming from Safari.

To get rid of them, open Safari, click Safari > Settings in the menu bar, click the Websites tab and then click Notifications in the sidebar. In the list on the right, delete the sites that send you unwanted notifications.

Hello djb414,

If you only dismissed the notifications, absolutely nothing was downloaded to your Mac. You would have had to click on a link and to download something to be infected.

Furthermore you are perfectly safe if you have not entered any personal information, in particular usernames and passwords.

You can remove that one or just leave it be. It is used when you are actively engaged an Apple Support chat session as an attention-getter, to let you know they wrote something in the event you navigated away from that page.

It is a rare example of a legitimate and useful aspect of the WWW Push API standard, which quickly became leveraged by opportunists and bad actors responsible for 99.999% of those Notifications.

I found where to deny notifications from ujokegimi and denied them, but I would still like to understand if when I clicked on whatever switched the ujokegimi notifications on, if any malware was downloaded onto my macbook. The only protection I seem to have is whatever came with my MacBook Air and a free Malwarebytes account. Was any malware downloaded on my computer or anything else I should know about/look for? 🙏🏽✨
