subtitles dont show in fullscreen

iPhone 13, iOS 18.3

subtitles are turned on in my settings. I’ve tried restarting my phone.

youtube and other websites in safari and other browsers do not show subtitles in full screen even when they were there not in full screen. This has been a problem for a while but I just ignored it.

last night I tried to project a video with working subtitles to a Roku tv and the subtitles didn’t show up in fullscreen when on the tv, but did when just on my phone.

After updating to 18.3 today, YouTube subtitles are not showing up at all, even on videos I know have subtitles.
