Unable to add fingerprint to activate Touch ID on my iPad

I followed all the instructions, cleaned my IPAD, cleaned my fingers, deleted my finger prints & tried to add back my finger print. Message I received was, “ Unable to activate Touch ID on this IPAD”. It won’t allow me to add my finger print. What now? It an IPAD Air. Operating OS 18.1.1
