External monitor flickers through HP G5 dock

I have a MacBook Pro 1029 Intel i9, it is connected to a HP G5 dock via the USB-C connectors.

The G5 is connected to an external monitor, I have tried both HDMI and DisplayPort.

In both cases, the external screen flickers, turns off and on every few seconds. A second monitor is connected through an adaptor on the MacBook (+HDMI) and has no issues, so it has something to do with the G5 Dock.

I can not update the firmware as there is no iOS software on the HP website. Is there a way to fix it?

Hi,

I have the exact same issue with my 2019 Macbook Pro 16" (i7 + AMD graphics) and a few HP G5 dock.

I use various offices in my company and all of them are equipped with HP G5 docks, but for some reason I don't encounter this issue on all G5 docks.

Like you did, I also tried HDMI and DisplayPort to connect the HP E24 monitor to the HP G5 dock, but without success.

My colleague now has a 2025 Macbook Pro and does not encounter this issue.

Let's hope there could be a fix somewhere ...
