iPhone 13 Pro Max not recognizing external search drive

I am trying to offload photos to an external storage device and my phone is not recognizing that i have connected it. I have usb-c plugged into a lightning to isb-c adapter to my charging port

Sandisk on an IPhone 15 USB C I use to store all my photos on Sandisk with a dual USB C and Lightning ports on my iPhone 12 Pro using the Lightning entry but I just bought an iPhone 15 Pro and trying to use it but it won’t read it using the USB C entry. How do I get it to work? Without loosing all my old photos

MAC AND PHOTOS WILL NOT ACCEPT MY IPHONE 12 When I plug my iPhone into my Mac a pinging sound starts and Photos automatically rejects the iPhone. I am trying to transfer photos into my Photo library to clean up my iPhone when I travel. Why is this happening, it used to work fine. How can I stop Photos from starting up and making that awful noise - I really just want to transfer photos into my external HD.

Where on the iPhone are you looking for the drive exactly?

It should appear in the Files App, under locations.
