Different WiFi Frequencies, Same AppleID - How to split?

Greetings,

I have an iPad Mini 6 and an iPhone 15 Plus.

Currently I am wanting my iPad to be on the 5GHz frequency and my iPhone to be on 2.4GHz frequency. We try to limit our streaming devices to the 5G network and everything else on the 2.4G network. However, whenever I connect one to either source, the other follows suit. I tried to forget the 5G network on the phone but then the iPad forgets it too. I am curious, is this because they are tied to the same AppleID? Or is there a way to break that "sharing" between the two devices?

Thank you,

iPad mini 6, iPadOS 18

Not that I can duplicate.

If you want the iPhone to connect at 2.4 GHz and the iPad to connect at 5 GHz, the only way to try to make this happen is assign a different Wi-Fi network name to each of the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz signals.

Your Wi-Fi router may or may not offer this option.

Then, "aim" the iPhone at the 2.4 GHz network name and the iPad at the 5 GHz network name.

On the iPhone......

Tap Settings > Wi-Fi > Edit (in the upper right corner)

Is there a listing there for the 5 GHz SSID? If yes, you need to tap on the "blue i" to select that network and delete it.

In other words, the only listing there should be for the 2.4 GHz SSID
