iMovie does not transition between photos while making a movie or playing it

I found a solution and Maybe just maybe this will help at providing a fix for the issue... I added a image that was animated thru Messenger and just adding that image after my title image and the beginning of the iMovie enabled me to continue as normal with transitions working perfectly in iMovie on my iPhone. So my Solution was adding the second image as a animated video clip created by messenger. Yea every one now I make is done that way and it works every time, but if I don't do that it reverts back to not working.

Take a video of something, grass, sky, dog, whatever works with the theme of your iMovie. Reduce the video to its smallest possibility and insert it at the beginning of the iMovie. Then it works. Annoying but yes, Apple fix it.

I am also a teacher. Our tech guy found a workaround. If students record the whole thing like normal and add the photos to fit the recording length, you can have them airdrop it to you. You will save it to "downloads." When you open it and press play, the movie will transition between photos. Our tech guy thinks sending it back to them once you have downloaded it should cause their transitions to work again. It's as if sending them to a place that transitions between photos fixes the error.

The bottom line is, they can record and add photos like normal. Once they export and drop it to your Mac (didn't try it on my iPad), it will have working transitions. It's annoying but, it still allows them to create iMovies.

Apple needs to figure out how to fix this glitch and create an update though. Months of the app not working is not a good deal.

I think the problem is solved. I installed the most recent IoS update on my phone. I had deleted iMovie couple of weeks back. Reinstalled iMovie from apps. It works now, images transition from one to another while playing and editing.

Please try.

Place a very short blank video between the 1st and second slide. Then the transition between each slide will work.

Yes, I just take a image and upload to Meta Ai, then say Animate and then after its done download and import that in as the second image in iMovie. the transitions work perfectly after that... So its a work around until the issue can be resolved.

Add a video clip and it will work great! I use messenger to create a animated image. It will get you by until its fixed.

Sorry for the Delay. I do a few things. I upload a photo that I want to create a video clip into messenger, then tell it to animate, when its done then save to iPhone. Another way is to search google for a image that is animated gif and then download to your iPhone, upload to messenger, then down load it and it will save as a video clip. Then in iMovie you bring it in as a video. that's It. Works perfect every time.

I have the same problem after updating IOS to 18.3. When you manually move with fingers, the picture changes, but would not change in play or edit mode.

i saved all projects, deleted everything and the imovie app.

installed again from app store and this time made sure full access given to everything. Still would not work.

should Apple customers have to ditch imovie and change over to apps like Splice which is a paid app. Will apple compensate for this problem created by the IOS update to 18.3.

are there any (truly) free apps that anyone can recommend?

Hello Charlotte, I would add a short video clip created in messenger and that gets you around it until the fix is in.. If you need help with that I can teach you. Pretty simple until the issue is resolved.

Use the suggestion that is in the thread of using Mera to make an animation. It works!

As an 80 year old grandmother, I have been making iMovie for each of my children and grandchildren for years to send on their birthday with suitable music as they age. I do not want goofy clips, or to lose the projects that have been lovingly made and kept. Really not good enough and a real disappointment to one who assiduously makes sure I get the latest from apple. DO BETTER!!!

Yeah this is weird, I throw the photos in and a can’t make a video. I’ve read where people are saying take it out move here make it a video then move it back… even if it works that isn’t the point. The point is to not have to leave iMovie to make the movie. I hope they fix it, soon

I am also having this problem. I thought I was doing something wrong. It is so frustrating. iMovies I made on my old iPhone 13 still work. I now have the 16plus and just can't get the images to transition. Apple please fix this!
