Unable to download TikTok app on iPhone 13

No help will be given from anyone, especially from major tech companies such as Apple and Google or else they could face ruinous fines and potential legal liability for allowing TikTok back on their App Stores. TikTok is currently banned in the US. We do not know if or when it will return for download.

In the meantime, if you really want to you can still watch TikTok on the web.

TikTok and ByteDance Ltd. apps are no longer available in the United States, and visitors to the United States might have limited access to features.

Apple is obligated to follow the laws in the jurisdictions where it operates. Pursuant to the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, apps developed by ByteDance Ltd. and its subsidiaries — including TikTok, CapCut, Lemon8, and others — will no longer be available for download or updates on the App Store for users in the United States starting January 19, 2025.

Providing apps and services related to ByteDance is presently banned in the US, and the fines involved are “ruinous” to quote a US Senator.

While there have been various claims otherwise, vendors are unsurprisingly unwilling to risk fines of up to $5,000 per person for violations pending better legal clarity around the current status of the ban.

While President Trump has delayed the Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act (PAFACA) for 75 days, major tech companies such as Apple and Google will still keep TikTok off the App Stores for the reasons I stated above.

Trump ordered the U.S. Department of Justice not to enforce the law for 75 days, and to do their best to interfere with any States or private parties bringing cases to court to enforce the law.

The law remains on the books, and TikTok is very much banned. It would take an act of Congress to repeal, or to modify, the law. Or divestiture of TikTok as prescribed in the law for TikTok to satisfy the conditions for lifting the ban under current law. (Divestiture that ByteDance, Ltd. and TikTok have shown no interest in carrying out.)

By the way, the law was tested in the U.S. Supreme Court, which found that Congress had authority to enact it.

You are incorrect, the app is very much banned in the US.

There is limited access to the service on your browser but the app is not available for downloading.
