Is anyone's apple watch sleep tracking accurate? Mine is hilariously inaccurate

So I bought the apple watch because of its advertised features, including the ability to navigate, sync to my workout, track health metrics etc all from a small wearable on the wrist. Turns out, it can't do any of those things. I will speak to the navigation and other elements separately, but what I wanted to check here is does the sleep tracking ever work for anyone?

I have the latest iwatch 10, and please please please apple advisors don't even start with trying to suggest an update... The watch keeps thinking I am 'asleep' once the bedtime hour is reached. That is, even if I am running... Like literally, I was just moving about around continuously, then sat down at the bed and looked at the default Apple sleep tracker - according to it, I was 'asleep' for 1hr 20 mins. Thanks to Apple, I discovered a new hidden skill - I can sleep without being aware, and while working. Lovely. If only I could control it, I would now have 24 hours of active time every day.

Does this happen to anyone else? Or rather, is there anyone out there who feels the sleep tracker is not just a joke and can actually be useful? If so, I would love to learn from you

Thanks KiltedTim. I waited a few days to see if there will be any more replies. But based on all the info so far, the conclusion seems to be

  1. To get the sleep tracker to log hours of sleep to any basic degree of accuracy, then you can't think of the sleep tracker as an automated digital tool but rather treat it like a manual pencil and paper where you must 'write' (click something and set something up) just before you go to bed. This approach seems to be what KiltedTim suggests. I know that if you try to automate and use Apple's features like sleep focus, then it will not work accurately (which kind of defeats the purpose of a digital 'smart' tool)
  2. Inconclusive on the accuracy of the sleep quality tracking (like apnea, REM sleep, etc.) KiltedTim seems to feel it is pretty accurate. In my personal experience, it is hard to see how a watch that believes I am 'asleep' when I am physically moving around the house to be able to measure something that requires even more finesse accurately

So overall, for me, the Apple sleep feature is a complete bust. I appreciate there are users out there like KiltedTim for whom the watch works, in which case great for you. But sadly, for me, it is clear the money I spent on the 'sleep feature' is a clear waste
