Poor battery performance on iPhone 16 pro

i got my iphone 16 pro more than 1 week ago and i got to say, the battery life is so disappointing. I came from an iphone 12 with a less than 80% battery health and the battery life of the 16 pro is barely better compared to that. the screenshot shows my screen active time. the phone would last from morning to evening but that’s just because i am barely using the phone. i only open it to check messages and reply, i sometimes take photos but that’s it. it averages around 4 hours of screen-on time. The phone would lose 3-4% charge overnight even if wifi, data, bluetooth, and always on display are off. Do you guys think that this is a defective unit? is it time to return it to apple? thank you.

Apple Optimized Battery Charging

About Charge Limit and Optimized Battery Charging on iPhone - Apple Support

The battery charges relatively quickly up to 80% and then it rests. The battery is trickle charged very slowly over the next 6-8 hours up to 100%. So, you start every day with the battery at 100%. My battery easily makes it to the next night when I connect the phone to power supply again.

If you set an 80% limit, you have to charge the battery more often. But, even if you want to use the 80% limit or another limit, the battery is still charged up to 100% "occasionally". Apple does not define how often "occasionally" might be, but it was 3-4 times a month when I tried the limit setting.....which I now ignore.

It might take 7-10 days or so for Optimized Battery Charging to learn your routine.

I get much battery performance by ignoring the charge limit, but your results may vary.

It is impossible to overcharge the battery, if that might be what you are thinking

And, we provided you with answers to improve on the performance of the battery.

Optimized Battery Charging works much better for me than the other options. It will take a few weeks for you to notice the improvement.

Otherwise, contact Apple Support and ask them to run a remote diagnostic on the battery. Expect a determination that "everything looks good".
