Final Cut Pro 11 Is Freezing Constantly and Force Quiting
I have Final Cut Pro 11 and am operating on the latest oS (Seqouia 15.2). I've been working on a project for the last week using a 5TB external hard drive (where the library and files are held) and it randomly keeps freezing. I get the "spinning ball of death" when I try to play clips, move or cut a clip, or delete things. It doesn't seem to be a singular action that's causing it to freeze.
Sometimes, I wait a few minutes and it comes back but more often than not, I have to force quit because it's unresponsive. It literallly won't let me edit even 10 seconds of the video without freezing and crashing.
I've tried to repair the disk drive in start-up mode, which says everything is fine. I cannot see the SMART status on the hard drive because it doesn't communicate with my Macbook, but I don't think it's a hard drive issue. I'm trying to test it on a new project and other hard drive now, but it keeps freezing.
I have already:
- Deleted rendered files on projects/libraries
- Reset Final Cut preferences
- Created a new library and project at a lower resolution (I was concerned it was the 4K that was the issue, but my 1080 project has just as many problems).
- Unistalled Final Cut Pro and reinstalled it.
Yet, I'm still having the problem. I want to export what I've done at this point and just work on it on my husbands older version of FCP. But because the library was created on an 11 system, it won't let me open it on his, an older version. I can't export the video without it freezing.
After final cut pro freezes, my finder often freezes too and I am stuck having to manually reboot the computer.
I'm on day 3 of trying to fix this and can't work on anything. I don't want to lose this project, it took me 10 hours to do what I've done so far.
Other stats that might get asked:
Macbook space: Used 442 GB Available 43.87 GB
Hard drive I'm using for the library and footage: Used 2.7 TB Available 2.27 TB
Please help. I need to get this project done!
