How can I make Google Map remember my location settings on iPhone?

I'm getting the alerts that say "Google Maps has used your location 5 times in the background over the last 3 days..." etc

I click on ALWAYS ALLOW but then a few days later I get the same message (for Google Maps again).

I want my iPhone to remember that I clicked on Always Allow. And yes, I do want Google Maps (or other apps) to ALWAYS check my locations in background, not only when the app is in use.

How to stop getting these alerts?

I see semilar topics were raised a years before and upvoted by people. So an old problem.

Thanks.

It’s part of the iOS privacy features that track how often apps access your location in the background. It can't be disabled completely. Even if you choose Always as permission, Apple will keep sending you the alert.

  • Background Location Access: iOS allows apps to access your location even when they're not actively in use (running in the background). This is crucial for many apps, such as navigation, ride-sharing, and weather.
  • Location Services: You have granular control over which apps can access your location. Options include:
    • Never: The app cannot access your location at all.
    • Ask Next Time: You'll be prompted to allow location access each time the app requests it.
    • While Using the App: The app can access your location only when it's actively open.
    • Always: The app can access your location at all times, including in the background.
  • Background Activity Reports: Even if you choose "Always," iOS will still periodically notify you about how often an app has accessed your location in the background. This transparency is designed to keep you informed about how your location data is being used.
  • Disabling Background Activity Reports is not possible. This is a core part of iOS's privacy features.

In the case of Google Maps:

  • Choosing "Never" for location access will prevent Google Maps from using your location entirely.
  • Choosing "Always" will allow Google Maps to use your location at all times, but you'll still receive the occasional background activity report from iOS.

Key takeaway: iOS prioritizes user privacy by providing transparency and control over location data. The background activity reports are a crucial element of this approach, ensuring that users are aware of how their location data is being utilized, even when they grant "Always" access.
