Confusion about RAM usage in Mac mini

I've just upgraded to a mac mini from a 27" 2013 imac as it was becoming too slow. One of the issues, at least I thought, was due to the RAM - I had an app called 'memory dialogue' and it was always showing things at MAX and asking me to lower the pressure but clicking a button

i thought these issues would be alleviated with my new mac mini with it's 27 gig of ram but, using the app, i'm still encountering the same thing - which has got me to thinking that maybe it's just not an issue at all and i'm complete misunderstanding things - the inserted image is just after i've clicked the button in the middle and it's free'd up some space - but do i really need to be bothered by this in the first instance?

As user hcsitas posted, your Mac needs no third-party junk to run efficiently.

That Memory Dialog graphic has pretty colors, but the Mac already has its own Activity Monitor application that will display exactly the same info.

To my eye, the developer of your utility unwisely chose to use red as the color for the Application memory usage. We humans tend to associate big red lights with TROUBLE! But in reality what you see there is just normal RAM usage.

It is not unusual for the Mac to use most of the RAM it has for normal everyday proper operation. That's faster than moving data back and forth to the ssd (swap). As long as the memory pressure remains low and in the green – as indicated in Activity Monitor – then you're golden and have no cause to be concerned.

Your Mac is behaving normally.

They are designed to use most of the RAM even when idling. This leads to the uninitiated fearing they need more RAM. You can double or treble it and you will still see the same behaviour as that's the way it's designed to be.

So don't worry.

As hcsitas says, these third party apps are designed to play on people's fears and insecurities and make money for the developers!

It won't do any harm but it is completely unnecessary.
