External hard drive not ejected properly on Mac mini M4 after sleep

Every time my Mac mini m4 goes to sleep and awakens, I get a message saying my external hard drive was not ejected properly. I have tried all the suggestions in prior comments. Anyone at Apple working on this issue??

This is more a problem with Sleep, you should turn off sleep and in System Settings please do the following:

  • Click Lock Screen
  • Turn Display Off when Inactive and set the amount of time to what you desire. (I have mine set for 3 minutes)

This will turn your display off and you should no longer have a problem with the disk ejection.

Full Computer Sleep Mode is causing external drive, external display and other issues.

As a test:

Turn On "Prevent automatic sleeping when display is off"

Set "Turn display off when inactive" to 5 or 10 minutes

Leave the Mac On and only allow the display(s) to turn Off

Do not manually Sleep from the Apple Drop Down menu

Only Shut Down the Mac when away for a day or more

Don't hold your breath, but it might help if enough folks send Feedback to Apple.

ALMOST SOLVED.

Have had this problem since I bought a Pro Cylinder years ago. Got worse when I bought a new M4 MM. After trying EVERY solution without success on my new M4 MM, I bought a powered hub and connected my keyboard and printer to the hub. (MM does not like the backup drive connected to the hub and flags unending errors.)

MM ran almost a week with an error BUT this morning, the dreaded Disc not ejected properly message showed up again.

Why everything worked for a week; not a clue but maybe someone smarter than me can ponder on the IEEE1284 interface. Another clue, my rock solid VPN died frequently with the M4. Changed the AutoLock setting to off; no more problem. Thoughts?

Have you run Disk Utility's Disk First Aid on all connected drives?

In Disk Utility>View, select Show all Devices, highlight the top left entry.

Run Disk First Aid on all items in the left panel, from top down.

Are you running any VPN, Anti-Virus, or Cleaning apps?
