You presumably have an iPad5 - or either of a first generation iPad Pro 9.7" or 12.9". These iPads are incapable of update beyond iPadOS 16.7.x.

Whilst many App titles remain compatible with your iPad, if you want or need to access to Apps that require a more recent version of iPadOS than you iPad is capable, you’ll need to consider replacement of your iPad with a much newer or current model that supports iPadOS 17/18.

For information, here is a list of the highest version of iOS supported by the older models of iPad (for simplicity - “generations” are shortened to a number) that are restricted in their ability to be updated:

Newer models are all able to be updated to the current version - iPadOS 18.2.1

If investing in a replacement iPad, you would be best advised to consider a current model that supports iPadOS 18.x - as this will ultimately have the longest support lifetime before it too eventually loses update support.
