Why is the orange microphone icon showing in certain apps?

The other day I turned on microphone once in safari to allow a pitch detector to work. I turned it off again afterwards, but since then the orange microphone icon has been in the corner of my screen on many other apps: Files, notes, settings, microsoft office, google drive. Safari and Procreate (my drawing app) are clean. Why is the icon there? Does it mean these apps are using my microphone, or is it a mistake? In settings the microphone is supposedly turned off for Word, but the icon still shows. I would appreciate some sort of explanation... thank you!
