My airpods won’t connect and resetting doesn’t help

So a few months ago my airpod stopped working and I put it in a drawer and didn’t really think about it but I kind of missed them so I grabbed it back. But everytime I try to connect it connects for 4 seconds and the AirPod symbol won’t show up. So when I try resetting it basically nothing happens so then I flip them open and get to the connecting screen and most of the times it said it doesn’t work and asks me to try again so then I have to manually go into Bluetooth and connect them and then I repeat the process. Is there any fix to this?
