AppleTV No Sound to External Speakers

I have 4 AppleTV devices, all of which have been able to output sound to external speakers (HomePod mini and Bose Home Speakers). Recently, all 4 of the AppleTV devices will no longer output sound to external speakers - I can output to my Apple AirPods, but not to external speakers.

I have attempted Wifi and Bluetooth connections to the external speakers, but sound is never transferred to the speaker, it continues to play on the TV speaker (TV's are Samsung and LG). The AppleTV device shows that it is connected to the external speaker and disconnected from the TV speaker, but sound is only output from the TV speaker.

I am able to output sound from my iPhone and my MacBook Pro to the same external speakers.

This issue appears to have started within the last week. I updated one of the AppleTV devices to the latest update (they are set to automatically update), but the issue continues.

All devices are connected to the same WiFi. I've unplugged and/or rebooted all my devices. The issue continues. If this was an issue with just one of my AppleTV devices, or with just one of my external speakers to all my devices it would help diagnose the issue. But all of my AppleTV devices and just to external speakers doesn't work. Output to earbuds and headphones is unaffected.

Any suggestions on further troubleshooting? NOTE: although this is tagged with AppleTV4K (3rd Generation) I also have the issue with AppleTV HD.

first check the volume is up. I had an issue with my external speakers defaulting down to 0% giving the assumption they weren’t working. You might need to do this manually on top of the HomePod or by asking Siri on HomePod.

For your Apple tv 4k models, make sure you have the HomePods set to be the default audio in audio settings. HomePod and ATV need to be assigned to the same room

Update HomePod software as well, if not already done. Althpugh if this is also happening with Bose it seems less related to the HomePods.

Further troubleshooting you haven’t already tried would be to reset AirPlay and HomeKit on the Apple TVs. In users accounts - Primary user, sign out of your iCloud account. Restart the Apple TV. After it restarts sign back in and you will be prompted to set up AirPlay and HomeKit again. You might need your iPhone handy to facilitate this step.
