Refund in cash (or check) for an item with a gift receipt?

If I give someone a HomePod that I bought at an Apple store, along with the gift receipt, can they return it and get a cash (or check) refund if they don't want the item?

Refunds with a Gift receipt will only be given with an Apple Gift Card, not cash or check.

For returns with a gift receipt, Apple will offer you an Apple Gift Card.

Apple's policy is that they will give a refund within 14 days of purchase. Not sure what country you are in, but here is the policy for the U.S. https://www.apple.com/shop/help/returns_refund
