How can I turn on the sound alerts for text messages on my iPhone 15 ?

Is it possible to turn off the sent message sound on iPhone? Is it possible to turn off the sent message sound without turning off the received message alert tone? I still want to receive alert tones when I receive text messages, but the sent message sound (swoosh) is unnecessary for me. I don't want to have to turn off my text alert tone or have to turn off my ringer. I'm pretty sure the answer to my original question might be no, in which case: Apple please do something to fix this before I get so frustrated I switch to Android forever. [Re-Titled by Moderator]

Text sound alerts I do not get sound alerts when I receive text messages. I used to get them, and I don't think that I changed anything. I'm running IOS 17.1.1. In Settings > Notifications > Messages, Allow Notifications is On and Sounds is Horn. I've tried other sounds, but they don't alert either. I do get the visual, red dot alert on my Messages icon in all cases. Is there anything else that may be stopping a sound alert?

Inconsistent Sound Alerts for Messages I have an iPhone 15 Plus. Text messages alert me by sound only some of the time from any of my contacts. For example, I'll get a text message from someone without a sound alert...then later I will get a text message alert from that same person with sound. It doesn't matter if the phone is in lock screen or not. It's completely inconsistent and doesn't make sense. I've tried everything, but can't figure it out.

Double check the following in the Settings app:

Open Settings ➡️ Sounds & Haptics ➡️ Text Tone: Here, Ensure that there is a sound assigned for the Text Tone.
