Moving Contacts from old Exchange list to iCloud

Google used to support Exchange ActiveSync. For many years I was using it to sync between my iPhone contacts and my personal Google workspace contacts at. It is no longer available. My default contact save location is Exchange. But that contact “list” doesn’t seem to be syncing anywhere now.

I had hoped that by deleting the Exchange account in settings, I’d be given to option to leave contacts on the phone and they’d end up copied to iCloud. But when I try to disable contact syncing with Exchange, the only option available is to delete the contacts from my phone.

Any ideas how to handle this? I have contacts which are in the Exchange list but have not synced to Google nor to my iCloud. They seem to exist only on the phone, likely waiting for the day they can sync.

You can't use an iPhone to do that.

Unlike some Android devices, contacts are neither stored locally on an iPhone nor in SIM. They are synced to an email account that you had Google, iCloud, AOL, Exchange, Outlook, Yahoo or any Other

Try to export the contacts from google mail on a web browser. During Export select export as vCard and then

log in to https://www.icloud.com using your Apple ID credentials Tap Contacts app > Settings > Import vCard.
