Only first frame is copied as JPEG when moving videos to external drive

I have a number of videos which I wish to save to an external drive. Using copying and paste, the saved file is only the first frame - saved as a jpeg photo, not a full movie. What is the correct process? to save a video

problem with video files When transferring video files to a windows computer, the previews no longer work. The problem is from the latest updates and only affects video files captured with the original camera application. This is a screenshot from today - the bottom 7 files are from the camera app, the top 9 that have a preview were captured with FinalCutCamera app and as you can see there is no problem. Export video frame to pictures not available I have selected the frame to Export and clicked on File/Export. However, the option to Export Frame to Pictures is greyed out. I have done this in the past, so I know how to do it. But the option isn't available. I have OS Monterey 12.7.1.

Moving videos from photos to iMovie, and back again is lowering the quality. How do I get around that? I have a series of video clips in my photos app that I need to edit (trim, add/remove/enhance audio, arrange transitions, string together clips, etc.). iMovie has all the editing tools I need, but after uploading media to iMovie from Photos, and then downloading the finished content back to my Mac, the video quality is so much lower. I've exported with the best resolution, quality, and compress that I can, but the original videos from Photos still have much better quality. I'm not sure if the quality is lost when I move media from Photos to iMovie, or from iMovie to Photos after the editing process. How do I import, edit, and export videos between Photos and iMovie and still maintain the quality?
