MacBook Pro M4 screen notch, camera housing gap in menu bar

What’s with this crazy Apple idea of having a huge gap (over 35mm long) at the top of the MBP screen? I know it’s where the camera lives, but my previous MBPs never had this. If I have any more than about 10 items on the right side of the menu bar, they disappear into the notch.

Not so bad if one of those apps also has a place in the dock, but if an app is not also in the dock, there is no way to access that particular app.

I’ve tried deleting items from the menu bar, but date & time, Control Centre, volume, bluetooth, battery info, Wi-Fi etc are vital in my normal working routine.

How does anyone else get around this annoying ‘feature'?

How to adjust an app's settings to appear below the camera area on your 13.6-inch MacBook Air, 14-inch MacBook Pro, or 16-inch MacBook Pro

How to adjust an app's settings to appear below the camera area on your MacBook Air or MacBook Pro - Apple Support

comments by Shruti Haldea, ( Apple product line manager for Mac)—

“…on the 16-inch notebook, you still have a 16.0 active area on the diagonal in that 16:10-inch window, and we just grew the display up from there and put the menu bar up there.”

would apply to the new 14" model as well— the menu bar/notch area is added real estate not less.

When developers update their app for compatibility with the new Mac, the "Scale to fit below built-in camera" setting no longer appears.
