Apple podcast won’t quit autoplay

I’ve tried EVERY suggestion I could find including deleting the app. No matter what, every single time I pick up my phone the podcast app automatically starts, with a podcast I’ve since deleted.

they ought to figure this out so the rest of us can have immortality (maybe then we’d see a fix to this??)

Stop Podcasts autoplaying iPhone seems to often (but not always) start a random episode of some show when the one I am listening to finishes. Setting continuous play off in the podcast app settings does not prevent this. I can think of no circumstances in which this would be the behaviour I would want to see. Is there a permanent way to prevent the podcast app ever starting to play an episode until I actually click the play button?

Cannot shut off or clear ‘Continue playing’ queue in Apple Podcast on my new iPad . Previous thread had 60 people ‘me tooing’ this. Why hasn’t Apple responded directly. I’ve toggled off Continue Playing in settings deleted and reloaded the app - multiple times added items to the queue, closed and reopened the app - no result shut down the iPad and restarted - nope updated the OS to 17.5 - nope Why on earth would I want to involuntarily automatically populate my continue playing list with every unplayed podcast in a feed AND why does it seem to be the only way to do anything is to individually toggle each item from unplayed to played?
