Unable to make or receive calls on iPhone 15 after iOS 18.2 update

Myself and my husband updated our iPhone 15’s to IOS 18.2 this week and ever since the update neither of us have been able to make calls or receive calls.

We have restarted our phones & reset our network settings a few times which temporarily resolves the problem but then it stops working again. Can anyone help/give advice how to fix this??

Report the issue to your cellular data provider.

Most likely this is not due to cellular network provider. I have experienced similar issue with voice call that was established successfully suddenly breaks up the voice-the line persists but I keep hearing every other word or half of the word or half of the sentence from the speaker. Same locations, same network, same network conditions. The only thing that changed is iOS upgrade to 18.2.

I restarted the iPhone, made the call again to the same person and the problems went away for that call. Definitely software issue.

just my 5 cents :)

The ability to make and receive calls is a phone carrier feature.

Cellular data connection is a phone carrier feature.

Nothing to do with the IOS update.

Restarting your phone probably got you connected to a better cellular data tower.

100% phone carrier issue.

If you say so, I’m just not as convinced that is the case since it never happened to me with the same phone calling the same person from the same location every day for months on end. Never a single hitch in the voice call.

It always got me connected to the good network tower and now it did not?

Could be. Time will tell…

I remember having similar voice call quality issue in some previous iOS versions that exhibited the same behaviour and back then I used another cell network carrier.

And when you say voice service is carrier feature, yes it is but how iOS specifically handles cellular voice network signal fluctuations, does it break the call if signal is to weak or leaves call open and you experience silence and voice cutoff but the line is still opened, isn’t that in the ballpark of the specific mobile OS? Meaning that maybe android handles it in a way that listener does not notice such cell network issues, an iOS listener does? Or that something changed in processing of voice call that now you hear silence if poor cell reception and previously you did not?

I’m just not convinced it is purely cellular network provider issue. Ofc no way to confirm did anyone else at the same time at the same place on the same network carrier, having call in the same time experience same issues being connected to same cell network tower.

Cells get damaged, stop working, get knocked out of alignment, buildings get built that interfere. It happens. If you are having repeated difficulties connecting in an area where you didn't have trouble in the past, you should notify your carrier. When I worked for Verizon, we had a special department to notify if customers reported issues. If there were multiple complaints about a specific area (I think the threshold was 3), someone would be dispatched to check on it.
