SD card reader works on iPhone 16 but on on iPhone 12 mini

Question

SD card reader works on iPhone 16 but on on iPhone 12 mini

So i transfer images to the media team for my football club during the games however recently my phone has not been picking up the sd card connected via my reader on my iphone 12 mini i have tried a different reader and the same thing happened but when i gave my sd card to someone with a usb c reader for an iphone 16 and plugged it into his phone it picked it up straight away what could be the issue causinv this?

A larger capacity card may be drawing more power than the Lightning connector can put out. USB-C can output much higher wattage.

I assume that you are using a Lightning to USB adapter or adapter cable with the iPhone 12 mini.

Check that it is rated to carry data, and is not just a "charging cable" that can carry 5V power, but nothing else.

Is the card reader an Apple brand or third party reader? Is your reader have a Lightning connection or USB-C connector?

So my 12 mini i used a third party lightning connection on his iphone 16 i used a usb c connection which i believe to also be third party

If it is a power issue, you might try connecting the iPhone 12 mini to a powered USB-A hub (one that has its own power supply from the wall), and plugging the card reader into the powered hub.
